Apartment Living Tip: Buying Renters Insurance

Renters insurance is the easiest way to make the most out of your comfortable Collierville living. It protects your belongings against unforeseen disasters, and gives you a great peace of mind when they occur. If you haven’t thought about renters insurance for your apartment before, now is definitely the time.

If you have wisely invested in renters insurance, you don’t have much to worry about. Many people don’t take advantage of renters insurance because of a common myth: the cost. Renters insurance is surprisingly inexpensive. For a small fee a month, normally between $10 and $20, you can save thousands of dollars in case you have to replace your belongings. In all honesty, I’d much rather pay about $10 a month than to pay over $200 to replace a lost television or over $500 for a new laptop.

Renters insurance also covers liability for anything you’re found negligent to have caused an accident or a fire. Basic renters insurance may run you as little as $100 a year. In my opinion, that’s a small price to pay for piece of mind and the reassurance of securing your precious belongings. This video shows what happens when people choose not to invest.

How do you get renters insurance? National insurance sites like State Farm and GEICO all carry policies. You can also visit the Legacy Farm Apartments leasing office, and they’ll be happy to get you on your way to having even more secure belongings.

Amazing Win for Redbirds over Sky Sox!

Redbirds game

Hey Memphis Redbirds fans! Did you see the amazing game between the Redbirds and the Colorado Springs Sky Sox? After sixteen amazing innings, the Redbirds landed an astounding win!

This game was so huge that outfielder Amaury Cazana, who knocked out a walk-off home run to center field, received a shaving-cream pie in the face from third baseman Ruben Gotay. That’s one way to celebrate, right?

Though Amaury Cazana was the star of the game, the bullpen was what really attributed to the game’s spectacular win. Colorado Springs touched Redbirds starter Nate Robertson for five runs on nine hits in five innings. But after the Sky Sox collected a hit and a pair of walks against reliever Renyel Pinto in the seventh inning, their next 27 batters were retired, and 11 of the last 16 struck out. After stretching the game out to 7 more innings, it’s nothing short of amazing that the Redbirds pulled it off.

It’s amazing that the 4000 plus fans stayed in the stands until the end of the game. When it comes to baseball games, i’m normally ready to bring it in by the 7th inning, unless the game is really good. I guess that’s what happened to fans last night.

Can’t wait to see what happens at the next game!

2010 Tennessee Tax-Free Weekend: August 6 – 8

Hey everyone! It’s that time of year again: back-to-school. And with back to school comes everyone’s favorite weekend: tax-free. It begins August 6 and ends August 8.

Items that are exempt include clothing under $100, diapers, school supplies, and computers under $1,500. Some art supplies — including clay, paints, and drawing pads — are also exempt.

This should cover most of your kids back to school needs, (and some for yourself), unless you’re heading off to college.  In that case, you’ll need a few more essentials, but the tax free items will  help to ease a little burden on your wallet.

Where are you going shopping during tax free weekend?

Did the Grizzlies Make Good Choices in the NBA Draft?

Did any of you basketball fans pay attention to the NBA Draft last night? Apparently there is some debate over whether the Memphis Grizzlies exercised their picks in the NBA draft with need or best talent available driving the process. What do you think?

It’s no secret that the Grizz needed a better bench. So they nabbed Kansas shooting guard Xavier Henry with the 12th overall pick in the first round. With the addition of Henry, and a tall point guard with the 6-6 Greivis Vasquez (28th selection), they seem to be headed in the right direction.

Overall, the coach, Lionel Hollins, is happy in the acquisition of two great players. Xavier Henry 10th on the Grizzlies draft board, so there was no hesitation to pick the former University of Memphis recruit. Vasquez is very versatile and can play off the ball. Vasquez averaged 19.6 points, 6.3 assists and 4.6 rebounds last season.

With Henry and Vasquez on board, the Griz can give the opposition a different look in the backcourt when they go to the bench. Hopefully the rookies will give the  Grizzles what they need this upcoming basketball season. Who knows, maybe they’ll finally see the playoffs?

What do you think of the draft picks?

Where Are You Going to Watch the World Cup?

Hey Legacy Farm! Have you been following the World Cup coverage? Where do you normally go to watch big sporting events like this? For me, it depends on my mood. Sometimes, I like to watch games in the comfort of my own home, where food and drinks are free, and I can yell as loud as I want at the TV. But there are other options?

Have you thought about watching the game with your fellow Legacy Farm residents in the clubhouse? That would be fun, and you’ll get to know some new neighbors in the process.

Bowl of "Wings"

My personal preference is Buffalo Wild Wings. There’s one right near here in Memphis, about 12 minutes away. The good thing about Buffalo Wild Wings (or BW3’s as I call it) is that there are a good number of televisions with a different game on each. Your task is figuring out which one to watch. Another challenge could be which wings to choose, if you choose to go the signature route. I can honestly say that BW3’s has some of the BEST WINGS EVER. But that’s only my attention.

Along with a good selection of food and sports coverage, the wait staff is very friendly and aren’t afraid of striking up a sports convo. Granted, the conversation may run a little long (it’s a sports bar!), but it’s definitely worth it. :)

No matter where you go, just be sure you enjoy yourself. :)

Adopt an Adult Dog – They Need Love Too!

May 25, 2010 by akemp

For the last 5 years, Patches, my Jack Russell Terrier has been my only pet. Lately, I’ve been thinking about getting him a friend to keep him company when I’m not there. Preferably a female as Patches has been getting a little…frisky as of late.

Sure, I could get a puppy, but I don’t think that would be a good companion for my adult dog. Puppies are ever cute, but adult dogs need love too, which is why I’m choosing to adopt and older dog.

There are certain benefits to adopting an adult dog such as having a greater maturity level. They are still wonderful play pals, but they lack the ever present energy and curiosity of a pup. The myth of ‘you can’t teach an old dog new tricks’ is just that, a myth. My Patches is still learning new things and he’s pushing 35 in dog years. :)

I’ll be going this weekend to look at the dog that I want to adopt. I’ll let you all know how it goes! :)

Are you gaining a furry family member anytime in the near future?

It’s wedding season, so I decided to post a video of a wedding today. :) Unfortunately, it isn’t the best wedding out there, at least not for the poor bride. I don’t know what I would do in this situation…what would you do?

Make a splash!

Do you have one hobby that you love above all others? Do you like to cook, sew, design, or eat? Well, why don’t you consider turning your passion into a paycheck? It may not seem easy, but you’ll be part of an elite class that thoroughly enjoys doing their job everyday, rather than just working to receive a paycheck.

Here are a few passions that can turn a profit:

Do you love working out? Become a personal trainer.

Personal trainers work in a variety of settings – gyms, parks, and clients’ homes – to help individuals design and carry out fitness programs. Most gyms require certification from one of several national fitness organizations. The average salary of personal trainers employed by fitness centers is $25,910. However most trainers are self-employed, and can command higher pay – $50,000 and up – for those with an established client base.

Love food? Become a sommelier or restaurant manager.

If you’re the one everyone at the dinner table consults when it’s time to order the food and wine, consider turning that passion into a position as the wine expert at a high-end restaurant or running a restaurant yourself. Most professional sommeliers receive certification through one of three national organizations after demonstrating a thorough knowledge of the world of wine. Salaries can vary widely, starting at around $30,000 and raising to $160,000 or more for Master Sommeliers with the most experience.

Always shoot for your dreams. Who knows, you may end up making money doing just that. :)

What’s your passion?
